Energy recovery and plume reduction from an industrial spray drying unit using an absorption heat transformer.

Summary

A two-stage absorption heat transformer was designed and constructed to investigate the potential for dehumidifying and reheating a simulated drier exhaust stream to make it suitable for recycle to the drier inlet. Performance data for the absorption heat transformer indicate that an airstream can be reheated to a temperature of 160 deg C, using a lithium bromide solution of 68% w/w, with a circulation ratio (lithium bromide steam flow) of 14.8. Temperature lifts between 50 and 70 deg C are possible in the reheat column when a low circulation ratio and a high lithium bromide concentration are used.
