ENERGY SAVING AND IMPROVEMENT IN THE MAINTENANCE OF GAS-FIRED ABSORPTION WATER CHILLER/HEATER USING MICROPROCESSOR BASED CONTROLLER.

Author(s) : IKARI M., KUROSAWA S., IWAMA E.

Summary

THE AUTHORS REPORT A NEW CONTROLLING SYSTEM WHICH OPERATES 2 TO 4 UNITS. THE MAJOR FUNCTIONS ARE: (1) CONTROL OF SCHEDULED OPERATION ; (2) CONTROL OF NUMBER OF RUNNING UNITS ; (3) CONTROL OF OUTGOING WATER TEMPERATURE ; (4) CONTROL OF WATER VOLUME ; AND (5) CONTROL OF DILUTING OPERATION TIME. FUNCTIONS 2, 3 AND 4 CONTRIBUTE GREATLY TO ENERGY CONSUMPTION. THROUGH FUNCTION 2, THE EFFICIENCY OF THE HEAT SOURCE MACHINE AT LOW LOAD IS IMPROVED. FUNCTION 3 VARIES THE OUTGOING WATER TEMPERATURE ACCORDING TO EXTERNAL TEMPERATURE AND LOAD SIZE. IN FUNCTION 4, THE PUMP OPERATION IS CONTROLLED BY AN INVERTER. IT WAS SHOWN THAT THE CONTROLLER SYSTEM CUTS DOWN THE GAS CONSUMPTION BY 14% AND HEELTIOR4RUM THEREFORE THE INITIAL INVESTMENT CAN BE RECOVERED IN ABOUT 2,5 YEARS.
