Summary
The focus of the paper is to present a discussion of the feasibility of installing and operating an air curtain on a 3 by 9-feet (0.91 by 2.75 meters) doorway for a retail sales facility. The energy transferred through the passageway if the door was left open continuously or opened periodically was compared to the energy transferred through the passageway if left open continuously but also equipped with an air curtain. The results showed that a typical air curtain provides energy savings over the continuously open case, which returns the investment and operating costs in two air-conditioning seasons.
