This note summarises the environmental impact of refrigerants, particularly regarding ozone depletion, greenhouse effect and total equivalent warming impact. Users are warned that HCFCs may soon be banned as are CFCs. Substitutes are discussed with reference to various refrigeration applications. Recycling and good maintenance are stressed. D.W.H.
