Ethylene and tomatoes.
L'éthylène et les tomates.
Author(s) : LEROY P.
Type of article: Periodical article
Summary
The role of ethylene in tomato ripening is described together with results of research carried out in the US. This research was concerned with tomato varieties which do not naturally produce ethylene and hence would ripen more slowly. By the use of transgenic action and added ethylene it may be possible to control ripening of tomatoes, and perhaps other fruits. The author concludes that the biological mechanisms regulating these changes have yet to be discussed. Y. G.
