Summary

Existing CFC installations may continue to operate as long as there are sufficient CFCs in stock to ensure proper functioning. How long CFCs remain available depends, among other things, on the extent to which CFCs can be retrieved from old installations and made suitable for re-use. Recycling therefore is essential. The installation company may do the cleaning itself or several installation companies may jointly operate a purification plant, the distributor may deliver the contaminated refrigerant to the producer or the distributor may undertake the recycling himself. France and Belgium have become familiar with the last possibility.
