Summary

In order to offer a comfortable environment to the occupants in buildings, one must consider the proper characteristics on the thermal environment and indoor air quality at the same time. In this research, the authors evaluate the thermal comfort and ventilation performance characteristics by the numerical and the experimental methods for cooling and heating season in the lecture room that the total heat recovery ventilation system and two different air-conditioning systems, the 4-way cassette system air-conditioner (SAC) or the fan coil unit (FCU), are mounted on the ceiling. From a viewpoint of the uniformity of the predicted mean vote in the occupied zone, the thermal distribution performance of the SAC was more effective than that of the FCU. However, carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration was barely affected by the discharge airflow rate and the type of the air-conditioning system without respect to cooling and heating season.
