Evaporation heat transfer of R410A in herringbone microfin tubes.

Summary

Experiments on the in-tube evaporation of R410A have been carried out for a helical microfin tube and five types of herringbone microfin tubes. In the herringbone microfin tube, the microfins enable liquid to be removed at fin-diverging parts and collected at fin-converging parts. The heat transfer is enhanced by making thinner film at the diverging parts and by mixing the liquid at the converging parts. Thin film, however, causes dryout at an earlier stage in evaporation, and heat transfer then deteriorates. The effects of the fin height and helix angle are compared.
