R404A evaporating under forced flow conditions inside smooth, microfin and cross-hatched horizontal tubes.

Summary

The two-phase heat transfer coefficient characteristics of R404A evaporating under forced flow conditions inside smooth, microfin and cross-hatched horizontal tubes are experimentally investigated. Experimental parameters include a lubricating polyol ester oil concentration varied from 0 to 4%. The effects of mass flux and lubricating oil are discussed. Pressure drop increased by approximately 10% as the oil concentration increased from 0 to 4%. Up to 1%, the microfin tubing showed enhancement factors of about 1.5. For larger oil concentrations, this enhancement vanished. The experimental data are compared with results from correlations reported in the literature. Moreover, modified correlations are proposed.
