Evaporator analysis for application to water-source and ice-maker heat pumps.

Summary

Heat pumps use commonly water as low temperature reservoir. When the temperature is too low, it is possible to use latent heat of water freezing, thus producing ice. But the process comes rapidly to an end, efficiency of the evaporator becoming very low with increase of ice thickness on the evaporator. The paper discusses the ways to avoid this inconvenient, particularly by reversing suddenly the flow of water in the evaporator, after a certain production of ice. Calculations and discussions about this problem are presented.
