Summary

An air cycle heat pump test bench with a turbocharger and two blowers was designed and presented in this paper. The heating performance of this air cycle heat pump was then experimentally investigated under different operating parameters. The results showed that the pressure ratios of the compressor and turbine could be maintained within the reasonable ranges under the test conditions covered, which means that the two blowers were more suitable for this air cycle heat pump with a turbocharger than one blower. The heating capacity of this heat pump increased as the ambient temperature decreased, while the heating COP was less affected by the hot water supply temperature and the ambient temperature. This indicated that the regenerated air cycle heat pump with the turbocharger could offer more stable operation in applications with a large ambient temperature difference.
