Summary

The study presents experimental performance data of an R410A vapour compression system working with an ejector as the expansion device. Since an ejector system (EJE) incorporates simultaneously benefits from flash gas separation and work recovery, the COP of EJE system was first compared to that of a flash gas bypass system without ejector (FGB) and then to that of a conventional system (CV) at the same cooling capacity. Effects of flash gas separation and ejector work recovery are then distinguished. COP improvements ranging from 4.9% to 9.0% were measured while comparing CV and FGB systems. When FGB and EJE systems were compared, COP improvements from 1.9% to 8.4% were obtained. From EJE to CV system, COP benefits ranged from 8.2% to 14.8%. Overall ejector efficiencies varied from 12.7% to 21.0%.
