Summary

The paper describes in detail the experimental findings on using R134a instead of R12 as refrigerant on the unmodified refrigerator. Results and comparisons are given. Infrared thermovision was used to record the distribution and changing trend of the condenser temperature. After over 300 days of continuous operation, all properties seemed stable and normal, the R134a refrigerator satisfying all chinese national standards. However, R134a consumed about 4% more electricity than R12. The authors then used an R134a refrigerator under different frequencies (46, 50, and 55 Hertz) to study its performances.
