Summary

A BATH/CONTINUOUS FLOW TYPE SUBSTRATE HOLDER HAS BEEN DESIGNED AND FABRICATED. USING THIS HOLDER, THIN FILMS OF ANTIMONY HAVE BEEN VACUUM DEPOSITED AT DIFFERENT SUBSTRATE TEMPERATURES FROM 100 TO 300 K AND THEIR ELECTRICAL CONDUCTIVITY HAS BEEN MEASURED UP TO ABOUT 500 K < IN SITU >. THE CONDUCTIVITY CHANGES IRREVERSIBLY WITH TEMPERATURE AND THIS HAS BEEN ATTRIBUTED TO ANNEALING OUT OF DEFECTS. THE DENSITY OF DEFECTS IS HIGHER IN THE FILMS FORMED AT LOWER TEMPERATURES. IT APPEARS THAT THE ANTIMONY FILMS FORMED AT LOW TEMPERATURES ARE AMORPHOUS IN NATURE AND UNDERGO AN AMORPHOUS CRYSTALLINE TRANSITION.
