Summary
Fatigue reliability of the tank structure in liquified gas carriers is studied on the basis of structural reliability theory and the requirements of IGC codes. An iterative procedure to calculate the fatigue reliability of the tank structure is presented. The reliability of the tank structure after the crack penetrates the tank wall and causes leakage of liquid cargo is also studied based on the "leak before failure" principle. Several uncertainties which have a significant contribution to the fatigue reliability of the tank structure are discussed.
