Fiber optic sensor for the ammonia-water mixture concentration in absorption heat pump system.

Author(s) : ZHOU B., NIKANPOUR D.

Summary

Information on local ammonia concentration during an ammonia-water type absorption cycle is important in the study of the optimal performance of heat pump systems. The authors propose a fiber optic sensor technique for on-line ammonia-water mixture concentration measurement. A miniaturized fiber optic sensor based on a multiple U bend refractometer concept is developed and tested with a response capability over the ammonia concentration range of 0-60 weight percent in ammonia-water mixture and applicable to an environment of the operating pressure up to 400 psi and the temperature up to 60 deg C.
