A COLD STORE IS BASICALLY A HIGHLY INSULATED, REFRIGERATED, WINDOWLESS STORE WHICH POSES SPECIAL PROBLEMS OF FIRE PROTECTION. A FIRE IN A COLD STORE, BECAUSE OF THE CONSTRUCTION USED, CAN BE MORE SERIOUS THAN IN OTHER TYPES OF OCCUPANCY AND WILL SUBJECT FIRE FIGHTERS TO APPRECIABLY INCREASED HAZARDS. THE VALUE OF THE CONTENTS OF A SINGLE COMPLEX IS OFTEN SEVERAL MILLIONS OF POUNDS AND THUS EVEN A SMALL FIRE CAN BE EXTREMELY COSTLY. TREATS FIRE PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN REGARDING STORED GOODS, SOURCES OF IGNITION, ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT, MECHANICAL HANDLING EQUIPMENT AND TRANSPORT, REPAIRS, ALTERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE, MEANS OF ESCAPE, REFRIGERANTS AND CARTON STORES.
