FMECA: a method recommended for risk analysis for ammonia installations.

Author(s) : RIOUT J., MALEK A., GUEGUEN R.

Summary

Refrigeration installations containing large quantities of ammonia are submitted to a legislation corresponding to environment protection. A request has to be presented to authorities to obtain the authorization to exploit the installation that includes a risk assessment. In this case, a risk analysis is highly recommended by the authorities. A method of risk analysis based on FMECA was elaborated by the "Ammonia Club", a working group acting within the French Association of Refrigeration. The object is to present basic principles of the method and its application on real case studies.
