FOOD FROM THE SEAS.

Author(s) : LORENTZEN G.

Summary

AT PRESENT THE CONTRIBUTION OF SEAFOODS TO WORLD NUTRITION IS ABOUT 1% OF ENERGY OR 12 TO 15% OF PROTEIN. SPECIFIC ENERGY CONSUMPTION IS VERY HIGH IN MOST FISHING PROCESSES. FOR THIS REASON, METHODS, SUCH AS BOTTOM TRAWLING, WILL BE REPLACED BY METHODS. THE MECHANISATION OF FISHING METHODS AND THE IMPROVEMENT OF ORGANISATION REINFORCE THIS TREND. NEW HANDLING METHODS SHOULD BE DEVELOPED IN ORDER TO UTILISE SMALL FISH. CONSIDERABLE WORK IS UNDER WAY TO THIS OBJECTIVE.
