Fragmentation of a vapour bubble growing in a superheated liquid (with video).

Author(s) : BARTHAU G., HAHNE E.

Summary

The growth and fragmentation of a vapour bubble growing in superheated R11 during depressurization in a glass container is described and discussed. The experimentally observed total fragmentation of the bubble into a fast expanding cloud of tiny bubbles seems to result from the inception and immediately following breakdown of an evaporation wave, originating from the growing bubble's interface. Recent bubble growth models, incorporating the occurrence of an evaporation wave at the bubble's interface, seem to be questionable.
