Frozen blood: reduced HLA allosensitization.
Author(s) : SUMIDA S.
Type of article: Article
Summary
In dialysis patients, frozen deglycerolized cells tend to be used because the reduced immunization against human leukocyte antigens thus conferred is considered desirable where transplantation is envisaged. This study describes the use of 12 713 units of frozen deglycerolized cells in 1845 patients. The study demonstrated that transfusion of frozen deglycerolized red blood cells in these patients led to less HLA allosensitization than whole blood.
