Summary

THE FRENCH MARKET FOR FROZEN VEGETABLES WAS VERY SATISFACTORY IN 1988: BOTH PRODUCTION AND EXPORTS INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY ALTHOUGH EXPORTS WERE LOWER THAN IMPORTS. THE DISTRIBUTION OF SALES IN COMMERCIAL CENTERS AND BETWEEN MANUFACTURERS AND SUPERMARKET-BRANDS IS INDICATED. THE PRODUCTION AND MARKETING OF FROZEN VEGETABLES ARE DEPENDENT ON CLIMATIC CONDITIONS WHICH MAKE PLANNING DIFFICULT. FURTHERMORE, STORAGE IS EXPENSV. FROM THE SIMPLIEST PRODUCT TO THE MORE SOPHISTICATED ONE, MANUFACTURERS' INNOVATION ADDS DYNAMISM TO THE MARKET. IT IS NOW NECESSARY TO CONVINCE THE SUPPLIERS TO FOLLOW THEM. AN INTERVIEW IS REPRODUCED, ON THE EVOLUTION OF THE MARKET FOR FROZEN AND CANNED VEGETABLES, ON THE ROLE OF NEW PRODUCE AND ON THE PROSPECTS OF THE 1993 EUROPEAN MARKET. J.L.
