Type of article: Article

Summary

The article reviews recent advances in ice-melting heat transfer inside ducts and over external bodies and its application to ice storage systems. The article emphasizes the characteristics of cold heat removal as well as the fundamental physical transport phenomena being observed during the melting of ice layers. Melting heat transfer of slush ice is also discussed, and has attracted attention recently because of its transportability and regulatability in releasing cold heat. Problem areas needing further research are also identified.
