THE AUTHOR GIVES THE HISTORY OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF FROZEN FOOD CONSUMPTION, AND DESCRIBES THE NEW INTEGRAL AND SPECIALISED DISTRIBUTION CHAINS, MAINLY THAT OF THE GEL 2000 FIRM. AT THE CENTRE OF THIS A NEW 23,000 M3 COLD ROOM AT 248-243 K (-25 TO -30 DEG C) WAS BUILT WITH SANDWICH PANELS AND AN EXTERNAL METALFRAMEWORK. THE REFRIGERATING EQUIPMENT INCLUDES FOUR PACKAGED R502 DIRECT EXPANSION UNITS WITH AN OVERFED VERTICAL HERMETIC SCREW COMPRESSOR, AN AIR-COOLED CONDENSER, AN EVAPORATOR WITH ELECTRIC DEFROSTING AND A CENTRAL PROGRAMMABLE AUTOMATON.
