Type of article: Article
Summary
To prolong shelf life and to ensure top quality export table grapes, a grape precooler was designed specifically to meet South African conditions. The author explains how the grape precooler removes field heat from freshly picked grapes from as high as 40 °C down to 18 °C before being packed in a packhouse where the temperature is controlled at 20 °C to maintain the cold chain.
