Type of article: Article

Summary

CONDENSING TEMPERATURE IS OPTIMIZED FOR THREE-STAGE SYSTEMS, OPERATING ON COMMONLY USED REFRIGERANTS R12, R22 AND R717, WITH COST OF COOLING WATER AND MINIMUM RUNNING COSTAS THE OBJECTIVE FUNCTION. MAIN DESIGN PARAMETERS SUCH AS ECONOMIC COOLING WATER RATE, HEAT REJECTED TO CONDENSER, CONDENSING AND INTER-STAGE TEMPERATURES ARE COMPUTED AT VARIOUS ECONOMIC POINTS. THE RESULTS ARE PRESENTED GRAPHICALLY FORTHE FEASIBLE OPERATING RANGES OF THE SYSTEMS. EFFECTS OF OPERATING VARIABLES ON THE DESIGN QUANTITIES OF INTEREST ARE DISCUSSED. TO FACILITATE THE SELECTION OF COMPRESSORS, AN ILLUSTRATION IS ALSO GIVEN.
