Summary

A graphical approach has been used to analyse and optimise the absorption refrigeration process. It is based on the graphical construction of the pressure-temperature-concentration (P-T-x) inter-relationship and on the evaluation of the heat effects on the enthalpy-concentration diagram for the ammonia-water solution. An equation has been developed for the optimum generator temperature which, for specified evaporator and sink temperatures, maximises the performance of the absorption unit. A graphical solution of a refrigeration demand, confirms the accuracy of these equations.
