Summary

This document, published in the "Environnement, sécurité, réglementation" (Environment, safety and regulations) series, was written at the initiative of the MFCE Commission (refrigeration equipment, air conditioners and heat exchangers) at Cetim and Cetiat, in close cooperation with Uniclima trade organization. The European F-Gas regulation and the French 2007-737 decree of May 7, 2007 relative to certain refrigerants used in refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment have indeed altered the situation and the responsibilities involved. Hence, there is more pressure on all stakeholders in refrigeration and air-conditioning fields in order to contain, prevent and mitigate these emissions. Ultimately, the book constitutes a practical information tool on the essential points that should be taken into consideration when leading detection operations. This goes from the plain explanation of what a leak is and why is happens to the regulatory environment, and good detection practices. It is completed by practical files concerning various detectors and existing detection products.
