Summary

The authors present the results of a programme of evaluation of a thermochemical storage process using ammonia solid-gas sorption for the heating and air conditioning of an electrical vehicle. With a theoretical storage capacity of 186 watthours/kg for heating and 93 watthours for refrigeration per kilo of active material, the manganese chloride-ammonia couple is capable of heating the inside of the vehicle in winter and cooling it in summer. Dynamic simulations have shown the thermodynamic feasibility of the process in various phases of use and have enabled predimensioning of variable parameters to be performed. These results have been confirmed experimentally using a half-size model tested on an aerothermic test rig.
