Type of article: Article

Summary

This article gives a comparison of carbon dioxide and some refrigerants, which all could feasibly be used in the low-temperature stage of a cascade system at temperature levels found in supermarkets, cold stores or food processing plants. The results show that in this temperature range, condensing at around -10°C and evaporating at around -40°C, carbon dioxide is an excellent refrigerant, and in some cases the only refrigerant that can be used.
