Heat pump fluidized bed drying of fruit pieces.

Summary

Heat pump driers operate at wide temperature and relative humidity ranges. The industrial fruit drier design requires fundamental knowledge conceived in laboratory units. A heat pump dryer was built and tests were done on several apple varieties and strawberries. The heat pump bed drying technique consists of two steps. First, unbound weekly held moisture is removed by freeze drying and, next, tightly bound moisture is driven out by medium temperature drying air. Results are given.
