HIGH RESOLUTION EXTENSOMETERS FOR USE IN CRYOGENIC ENVIRONMENT.

Author(s) : KOMAREK P., et al.

Summary

DISPLACEMENT MEASUREMENTS IN THE MICROMETER RANGE ARE ESSENTIAL (MACHINERY CONTROL OR MATERIALS TESTING). CONTRARY TO THE ROOM TEMPERATURE CASE, THE WORKING OF DISPLACEMENT TRANSDUCERS IN CRYOGENIC ENVIRONMENTS IS COMPLICATED DUE TO SEVERAL CONDITIONS. STARTING WITH THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF DISPLACEMENT TRANSDUCERS, THIS PAPER DEALS WITH EXTENSOMETERS BUILTON THE BASIS OF STRAIN GAGE TECHNOLOGY. CALIBRATION DATA AND THEIR DRIFT BEHAVIOUR ARE REPRESENTED. THE PERFORMANCE OF THE HIGH RESOLUTION EXTENSOMETERS USED FOR FATIGUE LOADED STRUCTURES ARE ANALYZED. THESE EXTENSOMETERS ARE ALSO CURRENTLY USED UNDER HIGH MAGNETIC FIELD ENVIRONMENTS AT CRYOGENIC TEMPERATURES WITH A HIGH DEGREE OF RELIABILITY. THE OPTIMIZED RESULTS ARE GIVEN.
