Hydrocarbons as refrigerants in domestic refrigerators.

Author(s) : GUNTHER E.

Summary

The author argues that hydrocarbons are outstanding alternatives, whose particular advantage is in the possibility of further using existing production facilities for compressors and household refrigerating appliances, without radical technical changes being necessary. Hydrocarbons, whether a propane-isobutane mixture or pure isobutane, guarantee better energy behaviour, on account of the substances' properties and parameters. Safety in the manufacturing and maintenance of refrigerators remains a challenging task.
