Summary

THE ULTRASTRUCTURAL OBSERVATION OF INTRACELLULAR ICE PRODUCED BY RAPID FREEZING WAS UNDERTAKEN WITH AN ELECTRON MICROSCOPE USING VARIOUS KINDS OF ANIMAL CELLS AND MICROORGANISMS. AS FROM THE RESULTS OBTAINED, IT WAS ASCERTAINED THAT THE FREEZING PATTERN DEPENDED UPON THE COOLING RATES EXAMINED AND THE DIFFERENT PROPERTIES OF VARIOUS CELLS EMPLOYED AS EXPERIMENTAL MATERIALS.
