Identification and evaluation of advanced GAX cycles for space conditioning.

Author(s) : ANAND G., ERICKSON D. C.

Summary

The basic GAX cycle has been identified and developed in recent years as a promising avenue for unlocking the benefits of gas-fired space conditioning. The basic GAX cycle has significantly better performance than existing furnaces and gas-fired air conditioners. However, the cooling performance is low compared to electric air conditioners. Because of the modest cooling performance, the basic GAX heat pump is expected to be competitive only in heating-dominated markets. In order to improve the COP, various GAX cycles were tested to find the optimal test design. The aim of the paper is to present these tests and their results.
