Summary

The regulations concerning the ozone-depleting and greenhouse-effect substances are outlined. The transport vehicle stock is described by engine class. The annual requirements for maintenance of units and costs for new equipment are assessed. The special characteristics of refrigerated transport are detailed. The current situation of fluids is described (new vehicles and conversion of operating units) and trends for tomorrow are mentioned. Special characteristics of distribution, large and middle sized supermarket equipment and units located in the premises of the light commercial sector are indicated. The current situation is described (new and operating plants). Design of future plants is mentioned. It is concluded that transport and distribution use a lot of CFCs with high leakage rates. With the production of these fluids stopped they will have to convert their installations rapidly. J.L.
