Summary

The traditional process of solid adsorption cooling systems operates only with one adsorber. It has certainly the advantage of being technologically simple and its reliability and maintainability in time. However, its thermodynamic performance coefficient is limited, because a significant quantity of the consumption energy is transferred to a sensible heat for heating the adsorber and it does not take part in the desorption of the refrigerant. Moreover, the production of cold is discontinuous in time because of the basic cycle intermittency. To avoid these two insufficiencies, two processes, using at least two adsorbers with alternate operation or out of phase in time, were proposed: cycle with mass recovery and heat recovery. Several main factors affecting the performance of cycle and the heat recovery ratio are discussed according to the results of computer simulations, under various operating conditions.
