Summary

DATA ARE GIVENON WEIGHT LOSS AND SIZE REDUCTION IN DIFFERENT APPLE VARIETIES UNDER VARIOUS CONDITIONS IN MODIFIED AND NORMAL ATMOSPHERES, AS WELL AS ON THE PERCENTAGE OF TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS THAT OCCURS DURING THE COOLING-DOWN PHASE. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE GIVEN ON TRANSPORT, STORAGE AND PACKING, WITH A VIEW TO LENGTHENING SHELF LIFE. IN THE RESEARCH UNDERTAKEN, WEIGHT LOSS OVER 180 DAYS WAS 2.4 TIMES LESS AND OVERALL LOSSES WERE 3.1 TIMES LESS. M. C.
