Summary
With fruits of the apple cultivar "Schone van Boskoop" ethylene concentration during storage in a cell with a scrubber/separator rose to only 20 ppm, compared with up to 1000 ppm in a cell with a scrubber. The average percentages of weight loss, rots (mostly Gloeosporium sp.), flesh browning and core flush were also slightly lower in the scrubber/separator cell, but the incidence of bitter pit was slightly greater.
