Influence of internal conditions on the performance of a LiBr absorption chiller.

Author(s) : WANG L., LU Z., MACHIELSEN C. H. M., et al.

Summary

Absorption chillers in practice operate under non-steady state conditions. To obtain a high chiller performance, the internal operating conditions should be adjusted when the external superimposed conditions are changed. The internal operating conditions will result from the adjustment of a number of parameters: the main solution flow rate, the solution recirculation flow rate in the absorber and the refrigerant recirculation flow rate in the evaporator. In the paper, the impact of these internal flows on the capacity of an absorption chiller is experimentally verified and discussed. The results show that the different flows have different effects on the chiller performance. The mainsolution flow rate change implies a simultaneous solution concentration modification and this has a complicated effect on the performance of the absorption system. Optimum internal operating conditions are required to maintain the performance of practical systems at acceptable values.
