INFLUENCE OF REFRIGERATION DELAY ON THE ROT GROWTH RATE OF MONILINIA LAXA AND RHIZOPUS NIGRICANS AND ON THE RIPENING AND WEIGHT LOSS OF PLUM FRUITS.

Summary

TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT ON REGINA CLAUDIA AND OZARK PREMIER PLUMS IN ORDER TO SHOW THE EFFECT OF PRECOOLING DELAY (10 TO 20 HRS AND 30 HRS AFTER PICKING) ON FRUIT RIPENING AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF M. LAXA AND R. NIGRICANS AFTER STORAGE. THE RESULTS OF DELAYED PRECOOLING WERE: THE DEVELOPMENT OF LESIONS CAUSED BY BOTH MOULDS, THE INCREASE IN THE PERCENTAGE OF DAMAGED FRUIT, THE EARLY OCCURRENCE OF MYCELIUM AT THE SURFACE OF LESIONS AND THE INCREASE IN WEIGHT LOSSES, SOFTENING AND PERCENTAGE OF OVERRIPE FRUIT. IN CONCLUSION, PLUMS SHOULD BE PRECOOLED IMMEDIATELY AFTER PICKING.
