Summary

ANOMALIES OF THERMAL EXPANSION AND HEAT CAPACITY OF YBACUO(6+) IN THE TEMPERATURE RANGE PRECEDING THE SUPERCONDUCTING TRANSITION ARE FOUND USING THE X-RAY STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND LOW-TEMPERATURE ADIABATIC CALORIMETRY. ANOMALY OF THERMAL EXPANSION IS OBSERVED AT TEMPERATURES WHICH ARE BY 10-15 K HIGHER THAN TRANSITION TEMPERATURE AND THAT OF HEAT CAPACITY APPEARS AT T = 97 K FOR A SAMPLE WITH TRANSITION TEMPERATURE AT 92.2 K. THE BROADENING OF X-RAY LINES AT TEMPERATURES BELOW 200 K IS ALSO REVEALED. THIS BROADENING SEEMS TO BE LARGER FOR SAMPLES WITH A SMALLER VALUE OF OXYGEN INDEX.
