Internal breakdown in the blushed pear Flamingo.

Type of article: Article
Summary
Fruits of the blushed cultivars Flamingo and Rosemarie were harvested on 3 dates from 6 different regions and stored for 4, 6 or 8 weeks at -0.5 deg C. The incidence of internal breakdown at harvest was greater in fruits from the later picking dates indicating that delaying harvesting to improve size and colour can be counterproductive. Storage duration had no effect on internal breakdown but it increased in all fruits during ripening after storage.
