Summary
Perception by consumers has been controversial and concerns have been expressed, particularly related to the safety of irradiated food. Therefore, the toxicological aspects of irradiated food are addressed in the paper. It should be recognized that food irradiation is perhaps the most thoroughly investigated food processing technology. According to the World Health Organization "irradiated food produced in accordance with established Good Manufacturing Practice can be considered safe and nutritionally adequate".
