Type of article: Article
Summary
The changes in domestic tuna landings in Japan between 1980 and 1992 and also the changes in import by species between 1985 and 1992 are reviewed. Bigeye and Yellowfin are the predominant species, Bluefin is somewhat restricted in supply and hence prices are high. There is also a difference in price between fresh and frozen tuna, but the latter is held over in cold stores to regulate supply and help stabilize prices. Imports play a significant part and details are given of all tuna imports in 1992. Prices and consumption of other fish such as salmon and shrimp are discussed. G.R.S.
