Kuwait: file on the frozen-food market.

Dossier Koweït : le marché des produits surgelés.

Type of article: Article

Summary

The range of frozen foods available on the market in Kuwait is gradually expanding. The frozen-food sector used to suffer from misconceptions concerning the quality and guarantees concerning shelf life; attitudes are now changing, and so are consumption patterns. Local production of frozen prepared foods (Jahez) and desserts demonstrates this trend. The frozen-food market within the Emirate is dominated by chicken. It is estimated that chicken constituted 60% of the 38 KWD (110 M euros) imports of frozen foods in 2001. France is the 3rd largest supplier of frozen chicken and exported 4600 tonnes worth 1.6 KWD (4.6 M euros).
