Laboratory imitation of the hailstone melting.

Summary

A sharp change in the heat and mass transfer takes place. Melting strongly depends on relative humidity. At higher values the heat transfer is increasing, and it decreases considerably for hailstone melting. The differences in hailstone melting rates obtained experimentally and by known theoretical formulae, are caused by an insufficient account of the rate of the air humidity and of the behaviour of the water film on the hailstone surfaces.
