Large heat pumps and district cooling in China.

Author(s) : ENSTRÖM H.

Summary

Twenty-five years ago large heat pumps connected to district heating networks, (LHP), were introduced on a large scale in Sweden. Soon other European countries followed. About ten years later, the same scenario took place with district cooling, (DC), which is now a part of the energy infrastructure in many European cities. In Scandinavia district cooling is often combined with heating, whilst in the south of Europe it is not. The time has now come to introduce LHP/DC in China with the assistance of European experiences. Due to its performances, like low power consumption and environmental benefits, LHP/DC has a great potential being part of a more effective use of energy in China. This paper discusses the general benefits with focus on the situation in China. Recently, China's first LHP/DC system was taken into operation in Dalian 550 km northeast of Beijing. Its main features are reported.
