Large magnetic entropy change in La(1.2)Fe(11.6)Si(1.4) compounds.

Author(s) : LI F. A., SONG L., XIE G. Q., et al.

Summary

By adding an extra amount of La to the LaFe(11.6)Si(1.4) compound, the authors found that the stable NaZn13 cubic structure phase (space group is Fm-3c) can be more easily obtained by annealing at 1100°C for 50 hours. Simultaneously, a small amount of La-rich phase and the alpha-Fe phase are found. A clear itinerant electron metamagnetic transition and large magnetic entropy change have been observed in the compound. The peak values of magnetic entropy change is 48 J/kg.K under a magnetic field change from 0 to 1.5 T.
