Summary

This article explains the latest status of refrigerant safety standards including theoretical backgrounds and basic considerations. Both refrigerant property safety standards and refrigerant quantity safety standards are explained. Refrigerant property safety is mainly addressed in ISO TC86/SC8/WG5 that is the working group to prepare ISO 817. On the other hand, refrigerant quantity safety is addressed in ISO TC86/SC1/WG1 that is a revised version of ISO 5149, and IEC SC61D that is for IEC335-2-40. The outputs of these working groups and committees are cutting-edge technology and will be future global standards so introduced in this article.
